More than 150 people enjoyed a unique ‘Bogtastic’ event at the weekend, celebrating rivers and their source on the wetlands of Exmoor National Park. Packed with fun activities including bog safaris with the Bog Doctor, welly throwing, Molinia grass crafts, river dipping, hands-on science workshops, face painting and lots more... the event was part of the Heart of Exmoor scheme, helping people to enjoy and appreciate Exmoor’s moorland.

David Rolls from the Heart of Exmoor scheme said: “Rivers that begin life on the boggy moorlands of Exmoor are special places that people enjoy, wildlife havens and a source of drinking water along the Exe Valley. At Bogtastic people celebrated their connection to the wetlands and discovered more about them.”

David continued: “For me Bogtastic has been a real highlight of the Simonsbath Festival. The event was a real team effort and special thanks must go to the volunteers and our funders the Heritage Lottery Fund and Environment Agency.”

Mary-Rose Lane from the Environment Agency said: “Bogtastic really got people involved in Exmoor's bogs and rivers - a fantastic chance to explore places and environments that maybe seem a bit daunting or out of reach, but are integral to how we live our lives. One of the best bits for me was just how many families came along and all ages really enjoyed finding out about these fascinating places.”

Partners involved in this ‘Heart of Exmoor’ event included the Exmoor National Park Authority, South West Water, Exmoor Mires Project, the Environment Agency, the Simonsbath Festival and Simonsbath Conservation Volunteers.
