Moorland Life

The Heart of Exmoor projects are about communities as well as landscape. The people who live and work with the moorland of Exmoor National Park know it best.

We are working to capture memories of the moorland’s past and to safeguard the skills and understanding of the moorland habitats, by helping moorland managers to share knowledge.

Innovations include a pilot project to establish Moorkeepers, plus a Moor Skills project to pass moorland know-how to young farmers. The scheme works with moorland managers to organise practical demonstrations of methods and machinery, along with informal meetings and farm visits.
