In 2011 the Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership launched a lottery-funded scheme that promotes moorland as the Heart of Exmoor. The Heart of Exmoor scheme helps people to enjoy and appreciate moorlands, and it supports those who take care of those landscapes.
Moorlands are special types of landscape, which occur in very few places on Earth. Moorland was fundamental to the establishment of Exmoor National Park, a famously varied landscape that includes coastal heath, valley mires, moorland rivers, bogs and moors.
The Exmoor Moorland Landscape Partnership is one of many Landscape Partnerships (LP-07-00936/2) running portfolios of projects with public benefit, in distinctive landscape areas around the UK. The partnership involves various local people and organisations.
